Family buying guide
Yukon or Yukon XL?
Room for the family. And everything they bring.
Yukon or Yukon XL? Start with what stays behind the third row—not the biggest cargo number in the brochure.

The short answer
For a 2023 Yukon comparison, the XL offers more cargo volume with every row in use: 41.5 cu. ft. versus 25.5 in the standard Yukon. The tradeoff is a longer vehicle. Start with your passenger count, then test your actual stroller, bags and parking space.[1][2]
Compare the space you’ll actually use
| What matters | 2023 Yukon | 2023 Yukon XL |
|---|---|---|
| Cargo behind the third row[1] | 25.5 cu. ft. | 41.5 cu. ft. |
| Overall length[1] | 210.0 inches | 225.2 inches |
| Your driveway check | Measure parking length and liftgate clearance. | Allow for the longer body and liftgate clearance. |
| Your packing check | Keep every seat you need upright. | Use the same seats, stroller and bags for a fair test. |
Figures apply to the 2023 models shown in GMC’s U.S. guide. Cargo volume measures space, not the shape of the liftgate opening. It cannot certify that a particular stroller fits.
Start with the seats you cannot fold
A family SUV can look enormous with its rear seats down. That is the wrong test if those seats will be occupied on the school run or on your holiday trip.
Before comparing vehicles, write down who travels with you most often. Keep those seating positions available during your cargo test. Then load the things that travel with them: your folded stroller, a grocery bag, a sports bag or the suitcase that never quite fits.
For a Houston or Katy family, the useful question is whether the vehicle works on an ordinary busy day. Extra space only helps if it solves your actual packing problem.
What a specialist reviewer observed
The Car Mom’s page labeled 2023 Yukon / XL describes placing a Zoe Twin double stroller flat in an XL with the third row raised. That is a useful, specific observation from the reviewer—not a fit test performed by Classic.
Use it as a reason to investigate the XL. Stroller versions, folded shapes and vehicle configurations vary, so bring your own equipment before deciding. We are not treating the observation as proof that every double stroller fits.[2]
Check the space outside the SUV, too
Measure your garage or driveway with the door closed and your normal storage in place. Leave room to walk around the vehicle and open the liftgate. A vehicle that fits between the walls may still make unloading awkward.
On a visit, try the driver’s seat and the loading area yourself. A brochure cannot tell you whether reaching over the cargo floor or lifting your particular stroller feels comfortable.[1]
Try your holiday load before the holiday
For Thanksgiving visits or a school-break trip, add the bags you would normally leave out of a quick test: overnight luggage, a cooler and the things visiting relatives bring.
Pack with the seats in their travel positions. Photograph the arrangement so you can repeat the same test in another SUV. Do not infer an approved load weight from available space; consult the vehicle’s own load information.
Bring this to your cargo check
A short, repeatable test is more useful than guessing from photos.
